There is no visa required for U.S. citizens traveling for business or tourist purposes (maximum stay of 6 months) or official or diplomatic purposes (90 days stay). A valid US Passport (must be valid 6 months beyond intended stay) is required.

If the purpose of visit is not business or tourist (for US citizens), OR for non-US citizens (for business or tourist or transit visa), please submit the following:

• Valid and signed Passport (valid at least 6 months beyond the date of entry; with at least one blank visa page)  – photocopy is not acceptable
• One Visa Application Form completed and signed. The Consulate of the United Kingdom has introduced a web based visa application form. Applicants must follow the step by step instructions and pay visa fees online. Once the Online application is completed and payment is made online applicants will be prompted to schedule a appointment at one of 130+ Application Support Centers (ASCs) through out the United States for Biometric testing (digital scan of all ten fingers and digital photograph). The visa application must be submitted no earlier than 24-36 hours after and no later than 2 weeks after biometric submission.
• One Passport type photograph
• Biometric Fingerprint Result
• Copy of flight itinerary
• For Non-US citizen: Clear copy of the Alien Registration Card (Green Card) –or– Original U.S Visa (If the U.S Visa is in an expired passport then the expired passport has to be submitted with the current passport)

For Tourist (applicable for non-US citizens):

• If you are visiting a friend or relative a Letter of Invitation is required from the host explaining the relationship to the applicant and the purpose of travel. Invitation Letter must also include the Length of Stay, Place of Stay and contact information. A copy of the hosts British passport, (or British visa if the host is not a British citizen) must be attached.
• A copy of your hotel confirmation(s) is required. A letter from inviting family member or friend is required if they are providing accommodations to the applicant.
• Evidence of sufficient funds to support stay in United Kingdom is required. An original letter of employment stating that the applicant is employed of the company and in good standing. The letter must indicate the length of employment with the company, salary that the applicant is being paid, dates for which leave was approved and the date the applicant will be returning to the company.
• Most recent bank statement and a recent pay stub, both must be originals, scans and photocopies will not be accepted. If someone other than the applicant is paying expenses: If the applicants host is paying expenses please provide the hosts current bank statement and an employment letter. If the applicants parent(s) are paying expenses please provide the parent(s) current bank statement , employment letter and a copy of the applicants birth certificate.

For Volunteer:

• Submit a signed letter of invitation from a United Kingdom religious organization
• Evidence of sufficient funds to support stay in United Kingdom

For Business (applicable for non-US citizens) :

• Invitation letter from United Kingdom sponsor
• Business letter (see sample).  Note: The business letter must be addressed to the Consulate of United Kingdom, Visa Section, New York, NY
• Evidence of sufficient funds to support stay in United Kingdom
• Copy of your hotel confirmation(s) is required.
