Libya Visa Services in Dallas, TX

Libya holds extraordinary ancient Roman and Greek ruins – Leptis Magna one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world, Sabratha’s theater overlooking the Mediterranean, and the Greek city of Cyrene — as well as vast Saharan desert landscapes. However for US citizens in Dallas considering travel to Libya, the US State Department has a Do Not Travel advisory due to ongoing armed conflict, terrorism, and the complete absence of US Embassy services in Libya. AA Passport & Visa in Richardson TX can advise on the visa situation. Open 7 days a week. Walk-ins welcome. Call 972-231-1600.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The US State Department currently has a Level 4 Do Not Travel advisory for Libya — the highest warning level. Libya has been in a state of civil conflict since 2011 with multiple armed factions controlling different parts of the country. The US Embassy in Tripoli has been closed since 2014. US citizens in Libya who encounter problems have essentially no access to consular assistance. Kidnapping of foreigners, terrorism, and armed violence are serious ongoing risks. AA Passport & Visa strongly advises against any travel to Libya by US citizens and recommends reviewing travel.state.gov.

Yes. US citizens require a visa to enter Libya. However given the current Level 4 Do Not Travel advisory and the closure of the US Embassy in Tripoli, processing a Libya visa through normal channels is extremely difficult. The Libyan government has limited diplomatic presence in the United States. AA Passport & Visa advises that obtaining a Libya visa as a US citizen is both difficult and strongly inadvisable given the current security situation. Review travel.state.gov before making any decisions.

Before the 2011 Libyan Civil War Libya was emerging as a remarkable archaeological tourism destination. Leptis Magna was considered one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Mediterranean world with its triumphal arch, forum, market, and theater intact to extraordinary levels. Sabratha’s theater with its three-story stage backdrop directly on the Mediterranean was breathtaking. The Saharan oasis towns of Ghadames and Ghat offered unique Berber architectural heritage. These sites still exist and will hopefully become accessible again when peace is restored.

The US State Department issues Level 4 Do Not Travel warnings for all of Libya without distinction. Even in areas that have seen less recent fighting the situation can change rapidly and the absence of any US Embassy or consular services means American citizens are completely without support if something goes wrong. AA Passport & Visa does not recommend travel to any part of Libya by US citizens at this time. Review the full current advisory at travel.state.gov.

Citizens of some countries may be able to obtain Libya visas through diplomatic channels in Washington DC or through third-country Libyan embassies. However given the ongoing conflict and security situation AA Passport & Visa strongly recommends that all nationalities research the current Libya security situation thoroughly before applying for any visa. Call 972-231-1600 for current information on what documentation assistance we can provide for non-US citizens.
